Basic Security Guard Training

The Basic Security Guard Training course is a legislative requirement to become a licensed security guard in Ontario and most Canadian provinces. Aurora's program covers the full PSISA-aligned curriculum and prepares candidates for the Ministry licensing exam.

What you'll cover

Emergency First Aid + CPR-C / AED

Emergency first aid training is a legislative requirement for security guard licensing in Ontario. The course also satisfies workplace first-aid requirements where at least one trained person is required on each shift.

  • Primary and secondary patient assessment
  • CPR-C and AED operation
  • Choking, bleeding, and shock management
  • Burns, head and spinal injuries
  • Documentation and handover to paramedics

Advanced Use of Force

Designed to enable security guards and private investigators to carry handcuffs and batons on duty. Combines classroom instruction with practical, scenario-based exercises and proficiency testing.

  • Handcuffing technique and prisoner control
  • Baton handling, retention, and de-escalation
  • Documentation and post-incident review

Private Investigation

Introduction to the terminology, procedures, and decision-making involved in private investigation work. Designed for guards transitioning into investigations or supporting investigative functions.

  • Evidence handling and chain-of-custody
